CHAPTER SUMMARY:
Lucas is stuck— haunted by a kiss, having gotten a mysterious call, shut out by Sadie, and desperate to fix everything at once. When his efforts to reconnect with Sadie are met with silence, he turns to Zach with a request: help mend things with Sadie, or at least nudge her in the right direction.
At B-Side, Lucas watches helplessly as Sadie and Zach grow closer. Meanwhile, August offers a cryptic hint at something he think might help Lucas in this time of need: Kaleb recorded his own final cassette. The problem? Lucas doesn’t know where Kaleb left it. After a string of missteps and misunderstandings, Carina helps Lucas finally uncover the tape hidden beneath his own floorboard, right where Carter originally left his tapes. But when he can’t bring himself to press play, it’s Olivia who reminds him that sometimes what really matters is being present in the moment.
On the roof, Olvia reveals that she and her girlfriend are making up, and Ryan admits that he wants to go back to school for psychology. But before they can celebrate, Sadie rushes up with horrifying news: Sara thinks Lucas’ mom knows about the abortion, and she’s planning revenge at the boarding home.
In the end, it’s not Marybeth who shows up at the Bourbon. St. Boarding front door— it’s Officer Lopez. With a warning: Marybeth is filing an official complaint with the Department of Buildings about the conditions at the boarding home, which could threaten their ability to continue operating.
