Standout Lines:

"She had been restored, renewed—the young blood singing in her veins clamored for the outside world."
"'We’ve cultivated our own strain of Clostridium botulinim,' Dis said, waving a syringe towards a lab fridge stacked with vials. 'So we can have fresh, homemade, organic botulinum toxin.'”
"She saw clearly now the future: All the years in existence—spent under a concrete dome, trapped with a man who saw her as merely another tool for his Program. All the years in existence—subsisting on the blood of her own helpless children."

From the Author:

As a woman in America who is now firmly in her middle age, I am fascinated by the beauty and longevity industries. These industries use the language of science to offer younger and younger people solutions in search of a problem: botox for people in their early 20s, buccal fat removal that increases perceived age, a disconcerting number of of tech barons who use young people as blood bags, etc.

I wanted to explore the extremity of this anti-aging mindset through a young woman whose fears arise from trauma rather than simple vanity, and pose the question of whether life without end can be considered a life at all—especially if that life is stolen.
