Standout Lines:

" Overgrown in its years of solitude. In the type of
way that inspires awe and wonder. At least, in you-- even at first sight, musing on
what secrets and stories the place held. Not the history so much as the world that
weaved its way through the cracks and crevices. Over the endlessly expanding
webs. Within the markings laced across the cabin’s worn wood."
"And as the moon ascended its throne to the highest point in the ink-black sky… In that moment, ever so briefly… Your sight washed over with the slightest moon-yellow tint.
"Then your vision starts to blur, colors melding into a monochromatic world of shadows and moonlight, with just that touch of yellow."

From the Author:

When it comes to (Un)Likeminded, I always go into a theme with two questions in mind: what’s my way into said theme & how can I explore that in a different style of writing than I’m used to. For THE MONSTER WITHIN, I found myself turning back to my first story of the podcast— FLESH & IRON— and what made that so special to me. It was the visceral nature of that story and the writing. I decided to bring that same energy to this, and explore emotional turmoil through a visceral transformation: Asher, turning into a werewolf… but also coming to terms with parts of himself that he’s hidden, parts he might lose, and what the people he cares about might think about it all.

My twist on the writing was to turn it toward second person narration, bringing myself and hopefully the audience into the journey itself— the thoughts, feelings, emotions, struggles of something so unique. And making it all feel like yours to share with Asher.

The story itself is pretty simple. It’s where our focus is within it that I think makes it so special. At least to me, in writing it. Hopefully for you too. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner in bringing it to life from there. Jayden is a dream to work with, and he approached this story with so much curiosity and passion. And I hope he’ll come back and join us in this world again sometime!
