THE SHOW
(UN)LIKEMINDED: A SCI-FI AUDIO ANTHOLOGY is a short story podcast that brings together like-minded creatives to do what they love— tell stories. Each (Un)Likeminded season is an anthology collection of short stories centered around a theme. With only that theme in mind, the incredible writers of the collection are tasked with creating a story, their way— wherever their mind takes them. With some amazing actors bringing these stories to life, we’ll explore how a singular theme can birth incredibly varied characters, worlds, and ideas… and how even the most like-minded creatives can create vastly (un)alike stories.
(Un)Likeminded is a completely independent (“indie”) podcast— everything from writing, production, voice acting, editing and release are done on our own, not on behalf of any studio or corporation.
Tone:
(UN)LIKEMINDED: A SCI-FI AUDIO ANTHOLOGY is atmospheric, layered, and emotionally charged— balancing grounded human drama with speculative, high-concept storytelling. The anthology thrives on deeply human themes filtered through the lens of the extraordinary.
We like to think of (UN)LIKEMINDED as the fiction/short story podcast version of Love, Death & Robots and Black Mirror.
Episodes range from darkly funny to hauntingly tragic, exploring humanity against the backdrop of technology, alien worlds, and shifting realities.
It’s not just about the technology or monsters or other worlds— it’s about the human heart.
Key Themes:
(UN)LIKEMINDED: A SCI-FI AUDIO ANTHOLOGY thrives on creative freedom. As an anthology, the beauty of the series lies in its variety— each story exploring something unique through the lens of sci-fi and fantasy. By giving writers the space to shape their own worlds and themes, the series captures a wide emotional range— from intimate character-driven moments to high-stakes existential questions. Still, certain themes emerge across the collections:
Connection, Isolation & Identity
(Un)Likeminded explores the push and pull between connection and isolation— how the desire to belong clashes with the fear of vulnerability. Across distant planets, fractured timelines, and altered realities, characters struggle to define themselves in the face of forces beyond their control.
Humanity vs. Technology
Advancements in AI, time travel, and bioengineering raise complex questions about free will and identity. The series explores the tension between human instinct and technological influence— how much of who we are is shaped by the tools we create, and whether those tools will eventually define us.
Fear, Hope & Survival
Whether surviving an apocalypse, facing down alien threats, or confronting inner demons, the series examines how fear and hope shape human resilience. The characters are tested at the edges of existence, forced to confront what they’re willing to sacrifice— and who they’re willing to become— to survive.

From day one, our most important mandate is to lift up diverse voices, with a particular focus on the LGBTQ community. As LGBTQ+ creators, we believe representation matters. We hope to push toward this goal with every project, including (UN)LIKEMINDED: A SCI-FI AUDIO ANTHOLOGY.
THE CREATOR
Creator, Producer & Editor:
ROBBIE HYNE
Robbie is an imaginative LGBTQ writer from the Berlanti Television camp. Most recently, he served as a Story Editor for the CW’s STARGIRL under the mentorship of legendary writer/producer Geoff Johns. Robbie’s journey began as an assistant at Scott Free Productions before transitioning to Berlanti Productions where he supported prolific creator Greg Berlanti on hit shows like YOU, ALL AMERICAN, DOOM PATROL, CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA, and more. After being promoted to Writers’ Assistant and Script Coordinator on STARGIRL Season One, he quickly rose through the ranks to become an integral part of the writing team for Season Two and Three. Robbie’s work also spans other major projects, including a stint as Writers’ Assistant on Scott Free’s RAISED BY WOLVES for HBO Max. In the midst of the 2023 strikes, Robbie channeled his entrepreneurial spirit to launch AUGUST YEAR ROUND PRODUCTIONS, a scripted podcast production company dedicated to writing and producing diverse fiction series such as MOONBURN, (UN)LIKEMINDED: A SCI-FI AUDIO ANTHOLOGY, and more. A proud native of Madison, Wisconsin, Robbie is a lifelong hard-of-hearing individual who, after several surgeries, now lives and thrives without hearing aids. His unique perspective— growing up as a gay, hard-of-hearing Midwestern boy— shapes his passion for crafting authentic, character-driven stories with strong, distinct voices.
THE INDIE PRODUCTION COMPANY
Birthed during the WGA & SAG dual strikes of 2023, August Year Round Productions is a indie podcast production venture built from the ground up— led by creatives, for creatives.
Our goal is simple— create a playground for writers, actors, directors, and other creatives to come together and do what we love: tell stories & make art.
We work completely independently, having raised our initial funds via the love and support of friends, family & other generous donors. From day one, our most important mandate is to lift up diverse voices, with a particular focus on the LGBTQ community, and tell meaningful stories.
Our official launch began in January 2024 with the release of our sci-fi, short story anthology podcast— (UN)LIKEMINDED. Followed soon thereafter with our first queer, YA audio drama— MOONBURN.
This is just the beginning, and we can’t thank everyone enough for joining us on this journey.
