Chapter Summary:
The Spirit Sleuths team arrives at the infamous Van Buren Manor, an abandoned estate with a dubious fire history, questionable Wikipedia edits, and a reputation Sebastian is determined to turn into their breakout hit. But before he can even finish his intro, equipment crashes, tempers flare, and the cracks in the team dynamic start showing. With Harper focused on looking camera-ready, Isaac quietly holding everything together, and Phoebe doing the actual work, the group stumbles through setup while ignoring every obvious red flag the manor throws at them.
Inside, things only get stranger. Sebastian obsesses over crafting the perfect narrative, Isaac tries to wrangle failing tech, and Harper gamely rehearses her screams. But when shutters slam on their own and the EMF reader spikes only around Sebastian, even Harper starts to take the house more seriously. Meanwhile, Sebastian and Isaac sneak off for whispered conversations about a mysterious “plan” for the night—one they’re definitely not telling the others about.
Then Phoebe disappears. What should be a quick search turns unsettling fast as the house grows inexplicably darker and doors and windows begin slamming shut one by one. When Phoebe finally reappears insisting she was only gone a minute, the team realizes time itself may be slipping in the manor.
By the time eerie laughter echoes through the halls and every shutter in the house locks them inside, the truth becomes impossible to deny: the Spirit Sleuths came here looking for a haunting… and the manor seems eager to deliver.
