Chapter Summary:
As our season’s “grand finale” begins, Isaac breaks into the cellar from the outside, saving Phoebe and killing the Demon with his heirloom axe.
Back inside, the ghosts hold the Matriarch at bay, but they can only keep her back for so long. While they buy him time, Sebastian works tirelessly to put the pieces of his final plan together, collecting every radio in the manor along with Phoebe’s reference books. In the process, he and Harper begin to forgive each other and reach an understanding of what brought them here.
Meanwhile, Isaac and Phoebe bond as they prepare to carry out the original grand finale for their episode: an explosion that will set the Van Buren Manor on fire again, one hundred years later. It was supposed to be the perfect ending to their latest “investigation”, launching them into the next phase of their show. Now, it’s meant for so much more…
When Phoebe and Isaac rejoin Sebastian and Harper inside, the ghosts reveal their own plan. They want Sebastian and his friends to escape while they continue to hold the Matriarch off. Sebastian refuses, knowing it would condemn them to the manor for eternity. For the first time, he’s ready to truly help the spirits rather than just look out for himself.
Then, to everyone’s shock, Sebastian tells the ghosts to let the Matriarch back in to claim him.
With everything ready, the ghosts relinquish their control and let the Matriarch return. Sebastian faces the Matriarch alone, promising to give her what she’s always wanted: eternal life. He’ll make the story of Van Buren Manor famous, ensuring she’ll never be forgotten. But knowing that won’t be enough to satisfy her, he turns her own power against her. With his ability to channel the radios and Margarette’s help, he creates a massive energy field capable of containing spirits, trapping the Matriarch inside the dining room of her own home.
Sebastian and the others escape just as the manor explodes into the fire that will destroy it, finally freeing the spirits from it’s tether, and destroying the contained Matriarch once and for all.
The Spirit Sleuths say goodbye to the ghosts they’ve come to know. But before the night is over, the Matriarch speaks to Phoebe through the ether, telling her that she and her friends have been brought together for a reason… and that their fate may extend far beyond Van Buren Manor.
Then, as the manor burns behind him, Sebastian rerecords his original introdocution:
“Behind me, burns the infamous Van Buren Manor. And with it, the spirits trapped within have been freed. Hi, I’m Sebastian McCann, and welcome... to… HAUNTED: THE VAN BUREN MANOR.”
